Considering the next saga will be based on stuff from the mobile game, it would be really inconvenient for a lot of people who didn’t play or maybe weren’t even aware there was a Kingdom Hearts mobile game. That game made me lose a bit of interest in the series for a while - I didn’t play KH3 until like a year or two after it came out.Įventually I just watched the Union X cutscenes on YouTube. For as much shit as people used to give the ‘spinoffs’ like CoM or Re:Coded, at least they had actual gameplay. It’s not just the fact that it was on mobile, it was that they locked story content that would be important going forward behind the shitty gacha gameplay. Since the game was new there wasn’t much story content yet, so I decided “I’ll take a break and come back when there’s more updates”, but then I ended up never coming back to the game. I played Union X for a couple of months when it came out and then stopped. That said, putting important story content on mobile was the thing that ended up being a step too far for me. Other people online would say how much of a chore it was to follow the series across multiple platforms, but i didn’t mind. I even got a PS3 because I thought KH3 would come out on it. GBA and DS), then great, but I did save up money for new consoles more than a few times. If I already had a console a game was coming out on (eg. I even got the special BBS/PSP bundle when that game came out. I’d get other games for those consoles, sure, but “there’s a KH game coming to 3DS” was the main motivating factor why I got a 3DS. Back before they released all the compilations, I was one of those weirdos who would buy new consoles just for Kingdom Hearts. Now for the story aspect, this story needs to get off mobile and onto console. After that though, there were pretty much important story updates coming out almost every month. Roughly 18 months of nothing but Disney filler. Important story content would take months at a time to release. You'd play for hours only to end up no better than where you started. Most missions were complete filler resulting in equally useless filler cutscenes. Well, it was super easy to break into the top 100 when an event first came out, but a couple of days later and you'd be in the thousands because people would figure out which setups gave the best score for that particular event. It was still a lot of buffing and debuffing, but you had to have the perfect setup with all your medals in a certain order to even break the top 100. It had more depth when it came to HSC, getting the highest scores in Coliseum, and PvP. Adjust for color (but even that wasn't always needed) It made it an easy decision not to spend money, because within the next couple of updates, all those super heavy-hitting medals that people spent all their jewels trying to get would now be cheaper and easier to get.Īnd even if you had the best medals, gameplay wasn't often more depth filled than buff with your best buffers and attack with your best attackers. All the medals there were suddenly outclassed became super easy to get as a F2P. Honestly, I kind of liked the power creep for KHUX. Medals (the method of attacking) were power crept almost instantaneously after release. In other Kingdom Hearts news, the series is coming to PC in March.Without massive time/money investment, the gameplay wasn't very fun. "The excitement and intensity of the remaining chapters is really going to ramp up, and I think you'll all enjoy what we have planned," his statement reads. In a tweet from the Union Cross Twitter account, Series Director Tetsuya Nomura thanked fans "for taking the journey with us for over 5 years," and said that they will be able to enjoy the story at their own pace in the offline mode. Players can also transfer their data to the offline version to continue their progress. "KINGDOM HEARTS Union χ Dark Road will be playable offline and KINGDOM HEARTS Union χ will be available as a theater mode," the announcement reads. As of February 24, players will no longer be able to purchase the in-game currency Jewels, though any that have been purchased prior will be available to use up until the end of service.Ī message from KINGDOM HEARTS series director Tetsuya Nomura: /ENWyoRBbyN- KINGDOM HEARTS Union χ FebruIt's not going away forever though, as an offline version of the game will also launch on May 30, and this will then be updated to include the Dark Road content later in September 2021. The game's story will conclude in April, and the servers will shut down on May 30, 2021. You can read the End of Service Announcement on the Union X Dark Road website.
